Welcome back Disney D23 Expo fans!
Two weeks ago at the Anaheim Convention Center one of greatest entertainment conventions of all time, the D23 Expo, took place right next to the marvelous Magic Kingdom, Disneyland and the Disneyland Resort Hotel!
The great folks over at ABC Studios and Disney Studios have made available a bevy of digital material via ABC Disney Medianet wormhole about the fun filled events that occurred at the fabled D23 Expo.
So much digital material in fact that we have been struggling on precisely which photos out of the hundreds available and what videos out of the many dozens to include and in what order in my report. We elected to select those items we have covered previously while making plans to cover more D23 Expo material in the future with visits to the various events pending funding and staff availability.
The 2013 event in Anaheim was so successful we believe that it inspired a fun filled year of additional happenings in 2013. We are hopeful that D23 Expo could become a yearly event.
This year the D23 events culminate with the two-and-a-half-hour tour of The Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Archives, hosted by D23 and the Archives staff on November 02, 2013.
There was so much was happening at D23 Expo Anaheim in 2013 it is difficult to internalize all of the events. As with any convention of this size it was impossible to cover everything, however we will include as much as possible.
Always an admirer of Walt Disney since my earliest memories of visiting Disneyland when I was only seven years old, I was excited to learn that the D23 Expo events were experienced by over 50,000 attendees from 48 states and 21 countries in Anaheim California, making the 2013 D23 exposition the largest in history!
Most images and video embedded in this report are courtesy of ABC Disney Media Net and D23 Expo for your enjoyment.
Thanks Disney and ABC!
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Although this portion of the D23 Expo was held on the last day of the event, this reporter cannot resist leading with one of the greatest feature attractions at the weekend festivities!
Marvel Comics based series, the Agents of S.H.i.E.L.D. premiere was being screened for only the third time at D23 Expo, over one month ahead of the broadcast on the ABC Network.
In a well received presentation by Jeph Loeb (pictured above left) of DC Comics and Marvel Comics fame, the crowd went wild at the mention of the new series premiering on the ABC Network September 24, 2013!
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland:
One of the most favorite attractions at the exposition was the miniature version of the “Jolly Roger” sailing ship featured in season ending episode of Once Upon a Time heralding the arrival of the outstanding new series “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” arriving on the ABC network in the United States on October 10, 2013.
I do not know about you, but we here at WormholeRiders are extremely excited to see family entertainment returning to television in a second “Once” series and look forward to joining “Alice” as she embarks on her adventure!
Jeffrey Epstein, Marketing Manager, Event Planner, Media Trainer, Writer, Blogger, and Editor for the D23 website, made the opening announcement for Once Upon a Time in Wonderland “Behind the Fairy Tale” panel as Moderator featuring the awesome “Once” creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis.
The panel was wildly popular as admirers of the ‘Once’ franchise look forward in eager anticipation to the series premiere. We include the panel below for your enjoyment.
Phineas and Ferb:
A program I have always enjoyed, Phineas and Ferb is a program we have covered previously at Comic-Con in 2011 and 2012 from a Music Behind the Screen perspective, as well as interviewing the composer of the series the talented Danny Jacob on video and on our WHR You Decide radio program.
Dan Provenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh were the featured panelists for Phineas and Ferb now entering its seventh year of continued success!
Treasures of Walt Disney Archives:
One thing we learned about D23 Expo in 2013 is there is so much more coming in 2013 including the studio tour to see more of the Walt Disney Archives coming this November, an event I plan on attending and hope to see you all there.
