Hello to all my fellow Chucksters out there in the Wormhole!
How has everyone been doing? I hope you’ve all been well! Chuck has been pretty epic this season. There are so many wonderful guest stars and (gentlemen) do I even need to mention the C.A.T. (Clandestine Attack Team) Squad?! No? I didn’t think so.
There has been so much that has been going on this season, but I am going to try to sum it up for you in an extremely short recap… A little akin to the summaries of “what you’ve missed so far on GLEE” if you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t know what I mean by that then grab a seat, hold on to your hats and try to read the next two paragraphs without taking a breath…
With Morgan’s (Joshua Gomez) help, Chuck (Zachary Levi) found his mother (Linda Hamilton) who turned out to be an undercover spy at Volkoff Industries a leading crime syndicate run by a man named Alexi Volkoff (Timothy Dalton). Chuck was about to propose to Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski), who decided she was going to say yes, but before he could do it Sarah was accused of being a rogue agent and sent to jail. This was actually a ruse set up by the CIA to help her solidify a cover story and go under at Volkoff Industries to help Chuck’s mom take them down from the inside.
The plan works, they take Volkoff down, Chuck’s mom is no longer undercover and is free to go be with her family, Morgan is a bona fide CIA spy with much help from Casey (Adam Baldwin), Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) have a baby with Momma Bartkowski (Linda Hamilton) becoming a grandma and Chuck proposes to Sarah in the delivery waiting room.
For their engagement party Chuck invites Sarah’s old spy team, The C.A.T Squad, to come which sent all the fan boys out there into fits during the many drool-worthy moments. With Volkoff behind bars, Volkoff Industries seems to be at an end until his daughter shows up and decides she is going to be the new head of the company and that’s what you missed on CHUCK!
Phew! That’s not easy to say in one breath… Now I know that this in no way, shape or form possibly comes close to summing up the episodes from the beginning of season four to now, but these are some of the major plot points that you need to know if you are just coming back to the show. If that happens to be the case with any of you, I highly encourage, nay, I beg of you – go watch every episode to see how we’ve gotten to this point. Season four will not disappoint you, so just catch up already!
One of my favorite bits of this season has got to be the fantastic guest stars that they’ve had so far. Get ready because there were LOADS of them! The first episode alone has Sarah Connor herself Linda Hamilton as Chuck’s mom, Dolph Lundgren as Marco the baddie whom Mama Bartowski takes out, Harry Dean Stanton as… Harry Dean!
And Olivia Munn in a small, yet hopefully recurring role as Greta – the codename given to any spy working at the Buy More. Heretofore Greta has been played by Munn, Isaiah Mustafa (The Old Spice Guy), Stacey Keibler (WWE, Dancing With The Stars) and Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Cape)! I’m really hoping that they bring all the Gretas back for a spectacular finale, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Other guests this year have included Lou Ferrigno, Karolina Kurkova, Bronson Pinchot, the return of Nicole Richie and Stone Cold Steve Austin, Armand Assante, Eric Roberts, (Dave) Batista, Joel David Moore, Robert Englund and as mentioned above 007 himself Timothy Dalton! And all of these are just in the first SEVEN episodes!
Even more guest stars: Ana Gestyer, Mekenna Melvin (Alex), John Larroquette (Roan Montgomery), Lou Diamond Phillips, Members of the C.A.T. Squad – Mini Anden, Mercedes Masohn and Mircea Monroe and the recent Lauren Cohan as Vivian – Volkoff’s daughter. Can you even believe the amount of talent they’ve pumped into Chuck this season? Neither can I! Make sure you watch all the episodes so you can see these incredible actors in… Well, action!
Besides this incredible line up, we’ve gotten to see all of our original and beloved stars of the show from Chuck and Sarah (Chara according to the most recent episode) to Jeffster (Scott Krinsky).
All of our favorites have come back with a bang! Granted, there were times I wanted to give Chuck a swift kick for laying out his relationship troubles while on life threatening missions, but who didn’t? I mean, he is a fully integrated spy with the Intersect 2.0 drumming around inside his head. He’s come a long, LONG way from the scared kid we met in season one who didn’t know the first thing about mission etiquette and the spy life in general, but now he does.
Chuck is a full blown spy nowadays and it drives me a little wonko that he’s slipping back into that old routine of bringing personal things into missions with him. Luckily though, he does realize this mistake and cuts it out before I exploded with frustration, so at least there’s that… But then when Sarah finally unpacks her bags and actually moves in with Chuck, he immediately mentions marriage and babies?! What the heck?? I guess it all worked out in the end. Chara is now happily engaged and there has been no more premature talk of tiny humans in their near future, thank goodness! Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see a little spy baby, but just not at this point in the game.
An especially exciting new relationship between Alex McHugh (Casey’s daughter) and Morgan has sparked an even more exciting relationship between Morgan and Casey. One of the best quotes of the year has to be Casey to Morgan, “You break her heart; I break your everything.” And then he turns around with that smug little smirk. These two have also bonded as they work together on missions. I love watching them together because they play off of each other so effortlessly.
Casey (Adam Baldwin) has changed over the years to become a little more human and accepting of the fact that his “team” is much more of a family than his previous teams have ever been.
He’s started to not only understand this, but embrace it and I think that has a lot to do with Morgan and Chuck treating him as a person rather than always as a leader. There’s a scene in episode 13, Chuck vs. The Push Mix, that shows Casey giving up control and letting his daughter and Morgan wheel him out of the hospital that really shows us just how far Casey has come in this respect. Not that he did it without the standard Casey grunt, but that’s just how he shows his affection… The plethora of emotions that Adam Baldwin manages to convey through just grunts and eye contact continuously amazes me!
Jeffster and Lester also never fail to impress with their insane antics. From switching out the CD Chuck made for Ellie when she goes into labor with something uhhhh… Special they concocted, to taking over the hospital waiting room to sing their rendition of Salt ‘n’ Peppa’s “Push It” because Awesome “forgot” said CD. They also inadvertently saved Casey’s life by digging him out of a dumpster after he escaped from some old enemies who were going to chop off his hand. It’s seriously crazy that this duo actually helped out for once, but it happened!
I love that Chuck has his family back for the most part (Sniff, Daddy Bartowski (Scott Bakula), sniff, sniff)! I think the fact that Chuck has finally answered the questions about his family that he’s had since childhood really help him to see things a little more clearly and this is evidenced in the way he ends up proposing to Sarah. Before he thought that he needed an elaborate setup and that everything had to be perfect, but once Volkoff is taken down, his mother is back home and safe and Ellie has her baby, he realizes that, just like Casey told him, it isn’t where you do it that matters.
There is no perfect spot or moment, but there is that perfect girl and that’s all you need. He gets down on one knee in the hospital waiting room and though there isn’t any sound, you can tell by the looks on Chuck and Sarah’s faces that it WAS the perfect proposal and how happy they are to be together. Alright, alright… Enough sappy romantic-ness from me.
And now I thought I’d give you all a few of my favorite ridiculously cheese-tastic, squee-worthy moments and all around silliness that made me nearly fall out of my chair with laughter:
~ Sarah telling Chuck that he is her home
~ The fact that Sarah realized she wanted to marry Chuck even if he didn’t have the Intersect anymore AND she told him
~ When Morgan is telling Casey about his relationship with Alex to get him mad enough to break free of his paralysis ending with Casey choking Morgan and then forbidding him from dating his daughter
~ Casey fixing things between Morgan and Alex when he realizes that maybe Grimes is possibly, but still probably not quite good enough for his daughter (Everybody! “Awwwwww!”)
~ Mama Bartowski in a Terminator moment, “Come with me if you want to live.”
~ Tiny little General Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) firing a ROCKET LAUNCHER!
~ Lou Diamond Phillips recently of Stargate Universe in Chuck versus the C.A.T. Squad. ‘Nough said.
~ Chuck and Sarah accidentally interrupting whatever the heck was going on between Morgan and Alex on Valentine’s Day… Especially when Sarah mouths to Chuck, “What is happening??” and he mouths back, “I DON’T KNOW!?!?”
~ Also, Chuck’s Love Machine shirt with his face on it. I absolutely NEED myself one of those bad boys! Can you imagine wearing that around at Comic-Con?! AMAZING!
I wonder what Chuck has in store for us next… The next episode is entitled Chuck vs. The First Bank of Evil and boy, does it look spectacular! Chuck and Sarah get in touch with their Bonnie and Clyde sides by robbing a bank.
Of course, we all know Chuck and Sarah would never do such a thing, so what in the world are they actually up to? Why is Vivian at the same bank? And why is Sarah holding a gun on her and telling everyone that she is a hostage?! All these questions are sure to be answered in the next explosive episode (sneak peek included below) . Make sure you don’t miss it when Chuck returns tomorrow evening on NBC Monday February 28, 2011 8 PM EST/PST.
Be sure to tune in live to support Chuck for hopefully an epic fifth season! Oh and from now on we will be posting weekly reviews of the remaining Chuck episodes, so check back here for more of my ramblings on Chuck!
