Today things kicked off well, though not exactly as planned. This, as I am told, is not unusual.
My first event, while RadioStar was off running very important errands, was supposed to be a Stargate Atlantis panel attended by Paul McGillion, Rachel Lutrell, Joe Flanigan, and Jason Momoa. Instead, due to scheduling and flight problems, we had a Paul McGillion panel! This was ok because I love Paul and he’s a great story teller, and he likes to tell stories about the rest of the cast . . . behind their backs! However, it was a bit disappointing because I have seen Paul several times now, so most of the stories he told I had heard before. But I know it wasn’t DragonCon’s fault! If anyone, I blame the airlines! Paul did a great job for having been thrown up on stage unprepared by himself.
RadioStar and I split up, she to change into her costume and get a photo op with Ben Browder, and me to go wandering through the vendors rooms. I have never seen so much stuff. The rooms were packed with books, figures, clothes, collectables, jewelry – if you knew it existed, you could probably find it. I was please to see that Quantum Mechanix had a booth. I probably spent over an hour going through all three rooms, and I came out with a Stargate Atlantis novel that I was missing, and a replica Tok’ra communicator! How much for the communicator, you say? Only $20!
After that we grabbed sandwiches for dinner and then went wandering throughout the Marriot Marque hotel. On Friday night, those attendees who have costumes bring them out and strut their stuff, posing for pictures. We saw some very amazing costumes. Some were very easily recognizable. Some were not. Some involved layers of beautiful fabrics or furs. Others involved very little cloth at all. We kept our eyes peeled for Stargate costumes, but we saw very few. I counted 6 SG team members, three of which disappeared back into the throng before I could take a picture. I chatted for a minute with the three guys I caught and they said there were some Atlantis Expedition members wondering around, but I couldn’t find them! Yesterday I thought I saw a Ronan Dex, but he was not to be seen today. The golden Anubis Jaffa from the Chicago convention was there, but he was not present this evening. Where are the Wraith? Where are the Jaffa? Where are the Goa’uld and the Ori? Come on folks, represent!
Over all, it was a very fulfilling day, and tomorrow has even more promise with the Stargate Multiverse panel, attended by cast members from both SG-1 and Atlantis, followed by a Farscape panel attended by Ben Browder and Claudia Black! So keep your eyes glued to Twitter and this blog!
Hey Grand!
Truly delightful account of day one. Poor Paul McGillion! Sounds like he pulled through well though!
Hey, that guy up there below Pual and the cool Tok’ra communicator looks a lot like Richard Dean Anderson? Heck, it is RDA! LOL!
Posted several great costume photos on Twitter that were well received. Can’t wait for your next post!
Thanks for the report. Looking forward to more. Was sorry to hear Joe and Jason and Rachel were delayed.
Great review. I was the golden anubis at the Chicago convention. I really enjoyed watching amanda tapping and michael shanks parts and they even signed my anubis mask.
