Welcome back fans of The Vampire Diaries!
Wow! Last Thursday’s episode, “Disturbing Behavior,” was crazy intense! Us fans were flipping back and forth to all the characters to learn important information.
This was one of those type episodes that was needed to put everything out there to set up story development for future episodes. Once again, the fan-base got caught up in the excitement tweeting away about The Vampire Diaries, trending 4 topics world-wide on Twitter: Team Damon, Mystic Falls, Go Caroline, and Damon’s.
“Disturbing Behavior” opened with our deadly trio; Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and Rebekah (Claire Holt), still in Chicago, in a clothing store while they tried to help Rebekah adjust to the 21st century and discussed the location and importance of the missing necklace. This scene was pretty cute. Rebekah was none too pleased with the clothes and music of now-a-days.
Rebekah was revived by Klaus with the sole purpose of needing her necklace. Stefan had a secret conversation with Katherine Petrova (Nina Dobrev) away from Klaus and Rebekah. Katherine was the only person, besides Stefan, to have known the full implications of Elena Gilbert (also portrayed by Nina Dobrev) having the necklace.
Gloria (Charmin Lee), the witch, had told Klaus he needed this necklace so she could find out why he was unable to create hybrids. Gloria was able to sense into the necklace’s location with her powers and described seeing a group of young ladies. At this same moment in Mystic Falls, Elena was burned by the necklace.
Gloria did not truly want to help Klaus. She wanted the necklace for herself, as it was a powerful talisman from the Original Witch. Gloria tortured the details out of Stefan using his spirit’s essence of the necklace’s where-bouts. Stefan cracked and Gloria discovered everything about Elena: she has the necklace, she was the doppelganger and alive, and that Stefan loved her.
At this moment, Katherine came up from behind and stabbed Gloria in the neck. Katherine attempted to find out Stefan’s plan that dealt with the Original Siblings. Stefan shared he knew of a vampire hunter that Klaus was running from. Katherine wanted to team up with Stefan, but he had no interest.
Stefan returned back to the warehouse. In a conversation with Rebekah, Stefan tried to unassumingly pump information from her more of this legendary vampire hunter. She revealed nothing to Stefan. Rebekah was curious of his love for Elena, perhaps jealous as she had once held his heart herself.
Rebekah kissed Stefan and he acted very into it to keep on her good side. She saw right through facade, having known him in his past. Rebekah informed Klaus of her intuition of Stefan’s allegiance towards them and how Stefan was trying to gain more knowledge of Michael, the vampire hunter.
At the end of the episode, we are shown that Klaus has believed Rebekah and must have knocked Stefan out cold. Klaus does not know the entire truth, but has been tipped off by Stefan’s behavior. Klaus then told Stefan, “I thought I would check it out, to see for myself what it is you have been hiding.” He opened the door of the semi trailer they were in the back of, which revealed that they have traveled to Mystic Falls while Stefan was unconscious. The episode closed with Stefan as he stood dumbfounded, in complete shock.
Another storyline that was covered in “Disturbing Behavior” was the return of Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) to Mystic Falls after a road trip vacation with family. She was reunited with her boyfriend, Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen), unaware of his connection he had formed with the ghost of Anna (Malese Jow).
Anna explained that Jeremy has only been able to see Anna, because he has been thinking of her. Anna told Jeremy that Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell) was evil and warned him not to have contact with her for this reason. Jeremy has been the only person able to see Anna. After intense concentration, Jeremy found out he could indeed feel and touch Anna’s hand. This scene made me think that maybe there was a chance for them still!
Bonnie caught up with her best friends, Elena and Caroline Forbes, as they filled her in on all the past events she had missed. Bonnie recognized that the necklace held magic and tried to help them figure it out.
While Jeremy was helping Bonnie clean up the mess that the fire left, Anna appeared to him asking him if he was okay. Jeremy became upset with Anna and said that she needed to stop appearing whenever he was around Bonnie. Anna said that she only appeared because Jeremy wanted her to. This just made Jeremy more confused about his feelings for both girls. Acting on the confusion, Jeremy shut Anna out and finally confided in Bonnie that he was seeing the ghosts of Anna and Vicki. Anna could only watch and cry as she shouted out for Jeremy to hear her. This was a heartbreaking scene and it made me feel sorry for Anna, who had no one else in the living world to talk to besides Jeremy.
Later, Bonnie met up with Elena to give her back the necklace. The conversation appeared to be going normally, as Bonnie told her Jeremy seeing Anna and Vicki. Then as soon as Bonnie gave her back the necklace, Elena sped away at an inhuman speed. This revealed that this was actually Katherine impersonating Elena so that she could steal the necklace from Bonnie! Oh that sneaky Katherine!
The third storyline that was featured in “Disturbing Behavior” was Damon’s growing closeness with Elena and his increasingly self-destructive behavior. This story started right at the beginning of the episode, as Damon and Elena were making chili together and (as I am sure Team Delena fans were happy to see) flirting big time as they did so. Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) walked in on the flirt-fest and asked the two what they were up to. Damon told him that Elena was being manic in her attempt to block out her sadness over Stefan. As the scene ended, it was very clear that Alaric was very uncomfortable with how close Damon and Elena were becoming.
After making chili with Elena, Damon was approached in town by Sheriff Liz Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre). Sheriff Forbes told him that she was holding Caroline’s father, Bill Forbes (Jack Coleman), in the torture chamber while she figured out what to do with him. Damon followed her to the chamber to compel Bill to leave town and never come back again.
After compelling Bill to leave town, Damon headed to the Founders Council Picnic. Once there, Damon was confronted by Alaric. Alaric was not thrilled with Damon and felt like he was getting to close to Elena. He told Damon that he needed to “take a beat,” because he wasn’t the right guy for her. Damon responded by telling Alaric that he was the one who needed to “take a beat” and mind his own business. Just then, the Sheriff came up to Damon and called him away to a founder’s council meeting.
The council meeting at first seemed uneventful and the look of boredom on Damon’s face was clear as Carol Lockwood (Susan Walters) called the meeting to a close. Then, none other than Bill Forbes walked into the meeting room, which indicated that Damon’s compulsion had not worked! Bill had mentally trained himself to resist it over many decades.
As this was happening, Alaric was with Elena and Caroline outside of the meeting room. The three of them were wondering why Damon had not left the meeting with everyone else. Caroline saw her father and left, not wanting to confront him after the torture he had put her through. After Caroline was gone, Damon finally left the meeting room and confirmed to Alaric and Elena that Bill had managed to make himself immune to compulsion. Damon’s solution to this problem was to kill Bill and be done with him. Alaric was opposed this and tried to hold Damon back from going back into the meeting room and killing Bill. Angry that Alaric was trying to control him, Damon snapped his neck, knowing that his eternity ring would bring him back to life. With Alaric out of the way for a little while, Damon brushed past a furious Elena and strode back into the room to deal with Bill his way.
Meanwhile, Caroline had gone to visit Tyler after leaving to avoid her father. Things between the two started to get hot and heavy pretty quickly, but the moment was interrupted when Caroline got a phone call from Elena. She told her that she needed to get back to the meeting room immediately, because Damon was about to murder her father. Caroline left immediately to save her father from Damon’s “solution” to get him out of their lives for good.
Back in the meeting room, Damon had confronted Bill, who was explaining that he was unable to be compelled because he trained himself. Damon questioned Bill as to why he does not expose the town’s vampires to the rest of the council members. Bill told him that doing this would put Caroline at risk and that he had no desire to “expose [his] daughter to those idiots.” Damon tried to intimidate Bill into leaving, which prompted Bill to simply scoff, saying that he did not think the vampire to be self-destructive enough to harm him. Damon responded to this as he grabbed Bill and ripped into his neck.
Before Damon could do any serious damage to Bill, Caroline busted onto the scene and threw Damon across the room, sending him crashing into the wall. Damon tried to fight back, but she was relentless. Surprisingly, Damon was ultimately no match for her despite his vampire age advantage. The fight ended with Damon across the room in a heap and Caroline speeding her dad away from the scene. Caroline has spent a lot of time on the show playing the victim, so it was nice to see her get to kick a little butt for a change!
After Caroline left the room, Elena walked in and confronted Damon. She was absolutely livid and scolded him for his inability to control his actions. Elena told Damon that she wanted him to “be the better man” that she knew he could be. Angry once again that someone was trying to control his actions, Damon scoffed at Elena and told her to stop “trying to turn [him] into Stefan,” and then stormed out of the meeting room. He returned back home to the Salvatore Mansion by himself.
Back at the Salvatore Mansion, Alaric was finally recovering from being “killed” by Damon. An argument broke out between the two immediately that ends with Alaric leaving angry and disgusted with Damon’s unpredictable, destructive behavior.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in tow, Caroline was lecturing Elena about Damon, as the two walked around outside. She told Elena that while he was not right for her, she needed to admit her feelings for him. Just then Caroline saw her father from across the way and left Elena alone to talk to him. At first Bill and Caroline shared a sweet moment, but it turned sour when he said to her that he believed she would “never be okay,” because she was a vampire.
Next, we saw Alaric as he confronted Sheriff Forbes and Carol Lockwood, telling them that he felt that he should have a place on the council as a representative of the Gilbert family, since he was the one taking care of Elena and Jeremy. Alaric told them that he wants to be an opposing force to Damon on the council and that he would not take no for an answer.
Back at the Salvatore Estate; Katherine, who had just finished tricking Bonnie into giving her Elena’s necklace, confronted Damon. She told him that she had a plan for the necklace and that she wanted his help. Damon confessed to her that he was frustrated by his friends’ attempts to change him. Damon continued on as he told Katherine he needed a “break” from Mystic Falls. Although she refused to tell him what they would be doing, Damon accepted Katherine’s offer to be her “partner in crime” in her plans that concerned the necklace.
After watching “Disturbing Behavior,” I was left feeling a little sad and confused. Which Salvatore Brother truly had Elena’s heart? What was Katherine really up to? Was Anna gone forever? Will Elena live with the Originals being in Mystic Falls? I cannot wait until next Thursday’s episode!
